PASCAL et ALAIN LORIEUX
FRANCE / LOIRE VALLEY / CHINON
Brothers PASCAL and ALAIN LORIEUX own a total of 50 acres of vineyard, 30 of which are in the SAINT-NICOLAS-DE-BOURGEUIL appellation and 20 in the CHINON appellation. Not far from the confluence of the Loire and Vienne Rivers, the property is at the extreme west of the TOURAINE region.
The vines grow on clay-limestone south-facing hillsides, and also on the clay-flint plateau overlooking the Vienne Valley.
The LORIEUX brothers practice rational manual intervention in the vineyards to avoid the use of chemicals. The soil is kept by the method of permanent grass cover, which is mowed two to three times per year to prevent excessive competition with the vines.
THE WINEMAKING PHILOSOPHY
“We promote plant and animal biodiversity to achieve a natural balance in the vineyard, and hence to provide the fullest expression of the terroirs.” - Alain LORIEUX
