About Serge Doré Selections
"Authenticity, character and the purest expression of terroir are the guiding principles at Serge Doré Selections.”
Our mission as an importer of signature wines is simple: to seek out and present a selection of the finest wines. These “signature” wines are chosen for the elements which collectively make them authentic:
- The land, the soils, and the climate combine to form the terroir, the specificity of a place.
- The people – the human element – : at its best brings forth in the wine a true sense of place, the expression of a terroir, making it a wine from somewhere and from someone, a time signature of a land and its people.
Serge Doré Selections was founded in 1996. In the years since then, Serge has developed a portfolio of unique wines, mostly unknown in the U.S. Many of these wines, from more than 75 suppliers, have received top ratings from the best wine critics, including Wine Spectator magazine, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate, and Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar. The wines are often among the favorites of influential restaurateurs and oenophiles across the United States.
As part of his longstanding collaborations with some of Europe’s most distinguished winemakers, includingStéphane Derenoncourt and Philippe Cambie, Serge frequently travels the world to seek out wines and the people who make them, and participate in the final blending of the wines. It is a work of pure passion…
These travels have led to some magnificent discoveries, especially among small producers, of wines that truly embody the land and the people who work it. These are human stories, full of passion and struggle, about the dedicated pursuit of making distinguished wines. From long-established terroirs, with soils formed over millions of years, to vines young and old rooting out their minerals, to the yearly fluctuations of weather and the daily toil of working the fields, the art and science of creating wine is an eternal story of people and places.
“Ça, c’est du vin!”
Who is Serge Doré?
Born and raised in a village in Quebec, Canada, Serge was inspired early by the hospitality and cuisine of his mother who ran La Villa Doré, a local inn and restaurant.
When he was sixteen, Serge went to work for Maître Jules (1963 Best Sommelier in Quebec). Jules was one of young Serge’s early mentors and encouraged him to develop his burgeoning passion for wine.
Sometime later, Serge met Champlain Charest, who was to become a lifelong friend and mentor (and who later founded the renowned Bistro à Champlain). Together, they drank and discovered…
After studies at the Institut de Tourisme et de l’Hôtellerie du Québec, he joined Philippe Dandurand, one of the most important wine brokers in Canada, and learned the wine business.
After working as Account Manager for Schenley Canada for several years, Serge moved to New York in 1993. During his early years in the city, he became friends with several of the most important and innovative chefs in Manhattan including Jean-Georges Vongerichten. His relationships with vinters and restaurateurs along with his expertise and love for wine led him to found his own business: thus was born Serge Doré Selections.
